5 things you don't know about sun protection.

  1. UVB radiation is responsible for tanning and burns while UVA is responsible for photo-aging, sun intolerance and melanchromatic disorders. For you to remember: UVBurning- UVAging!
  2. SPF index refers only to UVB radiation.
  3. Clouds only retain 20-25% of UV radiation so clouds are not a substitute for sunscreen. Sand, water, asphalt, snow, cement reflect 3-25% of UV radiation. We are exposed to both direct and reflected radiation!
  4. Sunscreen should not be applied on infants under 6 months of age because direct exposure to the sun is not recommended at this age.
  5. A SPF50 sunscreen, filters the 98% of UV radiation while a SPF30 sunscreen blocks 96.7%!!
